There are positives to the game, sure, but all the net-negatives sort of drag the whole thing down for me.

Stack these grinds and carry them over into G Rank and you have the hellishly grindy experience known as Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. Safe to say, it’s the grindier of the two. There are so many other intricacies to go into with deviants, but it’d constitute it’s own god damn post.
Monster hunter 4u key quests upgrade#
With Deviants, the grind lies in your ability to farm leveled deviant tickets in large enough bulk to forge and then upgrade a deviant’s equipment. With Hypers, the grind lies in getting the specific Hyper parts from a specific Hyper monster in enough bulk to make the final upgrades for your equipment. From what I can tell, the team that developed Generations had no idea whether or not they would be making a G version of the game, so they made sure to include TWO end game grinds Hyper Monsters and Deviants: One last issue is, of course, the late game grind. The Misty Peaks for example is almost identical to what it was in P3rd and 3U, save for a few areas that gain a single, dinky ledge. Third generation maps are a definite improvement over first and second gen maps with regard to layout and design, but they suffer from not having enough impactful ledges for jump attacks, making them very flat. First and second generation maps still have terrible area flow while also retaining their original, bad area designs, unlike what we saw in 4U with the Old Desert and its spectacular metamorphosis into the Dunes.

One such example being that in 4U you could actively travel between all the villages and hubs while being connected to the same online room in GU however, doing so will force you to disconnect, which cuts you off from a few, somewhat vital features like turning in completed villager quests (especially when they’re exclusive to the Hub) and accessing the Courier for special permits.Īnother big issue I have, and have had for quite a while, is the lack of changes to older generation maps.

I would say tack-ons to 4/4U, but there are actually things 4U does better than GU (which is bizarre to me). I was being very blunt and broad MHGU is still fun as it’s still an old gen Monster Hunter, so it gains all the benefits of having that formula for gameplay.īut most of its changes / QoL stuff are mainly just tack-ons to a fourth gen engine base game as opposed to fundamental changes like what we see in World.
